  • My View on Weddings

    • Weddings are a time to spend with your new husband/wife, family & friends.

The most important thing, photographically speaking, is to capture these relationships and interactions in portraits. My favorite photos are the candid shots. Yes, we need the formals because that's the way it's been for years and years and in most cases everyone is actually looking at the camera. But the ones that bring back the best memories are the candid shots - the ones of dad hugging the bride before she walks down the aisle, the Bride & Groom during their first dance, mom crying when her daughter says, "I do." Most of my images are candid, photojournalistic images. I try to capture all the little details that make each wedding stand out from the others - the dress, rings, cake, decorations, table favors, something old, new, borrowed & blue, etc.

  • What Sets Me Apart from Other Studios/Photographers?

    • I love what I do. It makes all the difference in the world. Talk to some photographers then meet with me - you'll see the difference.

    • I'll spend hours on your images creating fun, unique, one-of-a-kind portraits like some of the images in my wedding gallery.

Not many studios even offer custom, hand-colored, infrared images - and at such reasonable prices.

    • You, your friends and family will be able to see all of your images usually within 2 weeks.

No more waiting around for 4-6 months before you even see them!

    • Your friends & family can purchase portraits online when and where it's convenient to them.

No more lugging around big proof books to everybody. Personally, I've never been to a wedding, including my brothers, where I even saw the images after! Isn't that terrible?

  • Your Next Steps

    • Look through the information below and write down any questions.

    • Look through our wedding gallery to get an idea of my wedding style. Is it what you're looking for?

    • Call me on my cell (easiest way to reach me) 630-772-7573 for a chat.

This will give you an idea of my personality. Be prepared, I'm a little on the hyper side - but I have to be in this business.

    • If, after speaking with me and if I have your date available, we'll setup an appointment to meet and I'll explain to you step-by-step the wedding photography process.

    • Once the meeting is over, if you're interested in booking me

I'll hand you two copies of the contract for you to take home and review. If you're interested, complete both copies and mail them back with a deposit.

    • Once a signed contract and deposit are received

I'm officially your photographer! I'll send you more information and suggestions to get the most of your wedding day.

    • Once it gets close to your wedding

We'll chat again to go over all the details and scheduling to ensure we have enough time to get everything you'd like.

  • Points to Remember

    • Book Early!

    • What you put into your wedding photography, is what you'll get out of it!

If you and the girls/guys are having a great time, messing around, acting silly in front of the camera, you'll have those fun, unique images. If you walk around in a bad mood and your friends, family & bridal party are tired and grumpy - those are the kinds of images you will get. I can do really, fun, unique, creative portraits but that's only with your cooperation and enough time.

    • The more fun you have with it, the more fun everyone else will have and the more relaxed everyone will be in the images.

    • Shannon

I look forward to speaking with you and possibly shooting your special day!

  • Tips to Save Money and Cut down on Hours

    • Have photography start 30 minutes before the wedding to get the detail shots of the ceremony location

Something old, new, borrowed, blue, the flowers, last minute preparations. About 75% of the time I start 1 1/2 hours prior to the wedding (as in my package), the bride and her family or the groom and his family are not ready for their pre-ceremony portraits OR they just want the formal images of the bride & groom together with everyone after.

    • Instead of having a formal receiving line at the church/ceremony location

Many brides & grooms go table to table at the reception to greet and thank everyone. This speeds up the ceremony/portraits after and enables people to get to the reception and relax before the festivities start.

    • At the reception, go right from getting announced to the cake cutting

This is much better anyway because everyone is paying attention to what's going on. If you cut the cake later, most people aren't even paying attention and it's anti-climatic.

    • After the cake cutting

Do your toasts, have your first course then do your first dances (bride & groom, bride & father, groom & mother). Not only does this break up the long hour/s for food but people are dancing before they fill up on food.

About Us

  • The Business

    How the business was started.

    • I started creating portraits as supplemental income in 1993.

I decided to quit my job as a Internet Project Manager for BestBuy.com in 2003 and move to Bloomingdale, IL to be with my husband.

    • Then I was activated in the US Army Reserve and deployed to Fort McCoy

WI for 1 1/2 years! After being on active duty for so long and being away from my husband, I decided that when I returned to Yorkville (we moved to Yorkville while I was on active duty), I was going to pursue my love of photography and turn it into a full-time business. I figured it would also enable me to be home with the kids.

    • I'm now blessed with three beautiful kids!

    • So, Shannon Range Photography officially opened it's doors for business in October of 2004.

It's hard to believe I'm this happy doing what I love and also that I've become this busy in such a short amount of time. Luckily, I love it more and more as the years go on!

  • Who Am I?

    • Hi everyone! Here's a quick bio so you have a better idea who will be creating your children's, family or wedding portraits.

I am a 43 year old mother of three gorgeous kids Gage, Garrett & Gabi (ages 8, 7 and 5 - all 18 months apart - crazy).

    • Education & Training

With a degree in Radio, Television and Film from Temple University in Philadelphia with some classes in photography, I was well on my way to becoming a professional photographer. However, most of what I learned about the business, photography and website development though was done while I was on active duty in Fort McCoy, WI shortly after 9/11.

    • Experience

My first paid client was in 1994 right when I got off active duty. For a couple months, I shot sessions in our living room in Yorkville. Yes, our living room. Then we were able to convert a large room above our garage into our studio. For a few months clients came through the house to get up there. With 2 large German Shepherd mixes, that didn't last long. We build a separate entrance and used the space until November 2009.

    • The weekend before Thanksgiving, 2009

We purchased a beautiful 100+ year old home in Oswego that WAS used exclusively for our studio. However, since I'm not in grad school full-time, we rented out our studio in Oswego and will now be shooting out of our home in Yorkville, or on-location at local parks or in clients' homes.

    • People always ask how I do it

The answer is simple. I LOVE what I do and thrive on controlled chaos. I very good at multitasking and can juggle a million things at once. Although my children will always be my first priority, my second is my passion - photography, That's it in a nutshell.

Photo Classes

  • One-on-One Photography Lessons

    • We I have found over the course of the last two years is that

It is more beneficial to the students to have one-on-one training and tailor the classes to meet that students needs.

    • That being said, you can schedule your own one on one training

And it will be tailored to what you would like to learn. This is very effective for beginners as well as advanced photographers.

    • The initial consultation is no charge.

This will determine what we need to cover and where you want to go with your photography. From here, we will tailor a learning plan that will meet your needs.

    • My suggestion is you do a one hour class and get as much information as you can.

Then take a week or two to practice the skills then schedule another meeting.

    • You will receive a handbook and homework to do after each meeting.

The class is extremely hands-on as we will discuss a topic then actually do it.

    • If you have a friend that can join you, it is still the same price.

  • The Hourly Rate is as Follows

    • One hour

      $70.00
    • Two hours (can be split up)

      $135.00

      per hour

      $65.00
    • Three hours (can be split up)

      $180.00

      per hour

      $60.00
    • Four hours (can be split up)

      $220.00

      per hour

      $55.00
  • Summer Sessions

    • Stay tuned for more classes in September

  • Photography 101 (Adults)
